drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene s most cutting-edge techno. with releases this year already from adam beyer, pig&dan, alan fitzpatrick, dense & pika and julian jeweil, this july sees the return of enrico sangiuliano with astral projection. after his remix of mobys of why does my heart feel so bad back in november last year, enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. the result brings a mind and body melting release from the italian producer. the title track astral projection is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level. ‘blooming era has destructive dancefloor intent. there is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which enrico has mastered to perfection. a tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track. if you have seen label head honcho adam beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. road-tested to the max, and with much success.

the second release in endless illusion s series of split eps comes from marcos cabral & daniel araya and features two tracks from each artist. new york s cabral is known for his experimental idm and techno on labels like l.i.e.s. while daniel araya has recently released an album of acid, techno and industrial on the classicworks label. araya s we almost lost detroit is first and is a truly haunted deep techno cut with sparse acid undulations and a real sense of manic in the rasping synth lines. softer pads in the background only add to the spooky nature of the track. ghost bass is the other araya cut and this one is more up on its toes, with mid tempo kicks down low and wonky chords up top. it s a mind melting tune that trips deep into the night. live at the egg is cabral s first effort and is a lonely and icy techno track that is supple and seductive in its long lines and paddy drums. after getting you into a state of hypnosis, some freaky vocal sounds only add to the unsettling nature of it all later on. cuts & bruises rounds things out in squelchy and depraved techno territory. muted acid stabs are off in the distance as swampy drums suck you in from the front. it s a brilliantly odd tune that close out a fine ep.

los angeles based natan h and malta based artist owen jay return as gauss with their first ep of 2017. entitled resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth ep for their cultured label gauss ltd. the title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. it s a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. more gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. cutting ever more loose, odyssey is a mix of idm sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. least squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. this is an expansive ep that marks an exciting evolution in gauss s sound.

roman producer (and a force behind minimalrome label) valerio lombardozzi known as heinrich dressel returns to barba with a second release for our label, titled -the styx swamp-. heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved drexcyan universe and john carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. as with the previous record, -lurking underwater-, here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he s repeating himself. -gray slope-, -sailing the nether waterways- and -the styx swamp- are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. however, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. he truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it s hard to point them out. if that s not enough, -the styx swamp- got a treatment by nigel rogers aka perseus traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth s hypnotic quality. we re known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one s pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by emaemaema.

reissue of the highly sought after nigerian funk-rock album, moving effortlessly between reggae, jazzy afrobeat and psych rock. soundway fans first got a taste of jay-u’s infectious beats with the track ‘some more’, featured on the soundway compilation “nigeria disco funk special: the sound of the underground lagos dancefloor 1974-79”. originally released by emi nigeria in 1977, this now-rare album was written by jay-u and engineered by disco-boogie artist goddy oku. opening with the up-tempo reggae number “reggae deluxe”, the album descends into mind-blowing jazz-funk featuring several killer saxophone solos. the journey ends with a trip into psych-prog rock, with a sound not dissimilar to that coming out of the early 70s british rock scene.

senso sounds collects together two of the key tracks from bossman oliver huntemann’s new propaganda album for this 12 inch release. senso has established itself as a key label in the techno scene and huntemanns ear for quality remains as sharp as ever. rotlicht is a precision-honed instrument of techno weaponry - hard as nails and featuring epic and mind-bending breakdowns. additionally the egyptian dj and producer raxon reworks the track into a deep and solid groover with plenty of attitude. ‘poltergeist’ is a journey into huntemann’s feel for sound design and space in a club context, beguiling with its seeming simplicity, before hitting home with shifting, evolving grooves and haunting synth blasts. the young russian maksim dark adds his own interpretation of poltergeist to the release, edging up the darkness a little more and producing a growling, tough techno workout that will go over big on a lot of floors this year.

ursa’s reef is a late 80’s traveller and surfer wandering endlessly in the secluded raves of goa, searching for his own soul while dancing in abandon to the proto-trance journeys of goa gil. brought up in sintra, portugal, by a family of uptight catholic hypocrites, ur goes rogue in his early 20’s, seduced by the esoteric teachings of levi, pessoa, crowley and israel regardie while keeping an unhealthy obsession with roxy music. he is also a fictional, made up persona - a musical heteronym - of lisbon-based dj and producer marco rodrigues, mostly known for his work under the name photonz. together with his friend jose acid - a musical heteronym of joao ervedosa aka shcuro - he makes one last trip to goa that could prove fatal.

for our next fina records release we welcome french native closed paradise… closed paradise has been on our radar for a while after hearing releases on fools & fables, kolour ltd & whiskey disco. his unique (and mainly vinyl only) productions have featured heavily in our sets over the last few years, if you are familiar with his vibe you’ll know his tracks have a certain french finesse, and these are no exception. so we are extremely happy to finally put this out and add closed paradise praise ep to the fina family.

mytron & ofofo make multi culti great again with a full, fun, five-track ep. little is known about this freaky duo whose sound straddles opposing polarities, merging organics and synthetics, joining traditional textures with futuristic finish. these are sample-licious tracks that also feature original vocals and raw analog synths. they are noisy but clean, rough but smooth, soft and crunchy. on one hand, it s mad-cap multicultural disco funk as on si jambo (translated loosely as all good ) and 2tac onana, and on the other it s cybernetic weirdness and italo-inflected electro with non-binary joys on the venus holodeck and czary mary, which sounds like it could be the flip-side to sharivari. in between this binary divide is something for the mind, a brilliant piece of pop music that springs lightly into your brain with catchy bleeps, incredible vocoder, and a beat guaranteed to get the braindance party started.
